Not only do many of us rely on our glasses every day so that we’re able to see clearly, but purchasing glasses tends to require some investment. That’s why it is also crucial to invest in looking after your glasses properly to ensure your vision rarely has to be compromised.
As many of you need to wear your glasses regularly, no matter what your lifestyle, they can quite easily become damaged. Whether they fall from balancing on your head, scratch when they’ve been thrown in your bag or bend when they’re in your pocket – we bet they’ve seen better days!
But from today, things are going to change!
We’ve put together some helpful tips for you to follow right away to make sure you keep your glasses in the best condition.
Grip Correctly
When handling your glasses, grip the frame by the bar that crosses the bridge of the nose. This will prevent the likelihood of them bending out of shape and becoming uncomfortable to wear.
When removing your glasses from your face, with both hands firmly grip each temple (or arm) of the glasses from behind your ears.
Avoid touching the lenses.
Always Store Properly
We can’t stress this enough - store your glasses in the appropriate case whenever they are not in use! By doing so, it will help keep dirt and dust away from your glasses, while also protecting them from getting scratched, bent or broken.
Place Carefully
When placing your glasses on a surface, don’t lay them face down! This is an obvious one, yet we can still fall into this bad habit.
Clean Often
It is advised that you clean your glasses at least once a day to ensure your lenses are kept in their optimal state. By doing so, you avoid straining your eyes if you have to see through smudges, dirt and dust.
When possible, clean with a microfibre cloth and gently rub in circles over your glasses. Avoid using rough materials such as paper towels as they may leave scratches.
Remove glasses during certain activities
Remove your glasses and choose a more suitable method of eye support if necessary when playing sports, swimming, showering or sleeping.
Glasses String
Attach a glasses string to your glasses to hang around your neck. This will prevent them from falling from your head to the ground. Not only this, but it also helps if you find you regularly misplace your glasses as they’ll stay hung around your neck.
Put Them High!
We recommend also putting your glasses up somewhere high like a shelf. That way, small fingers or four legged friends can’t grab them! Also, when they are above waist height you can’t sit on them!
We’re all guilty of creating bad care habits when it comes to looking after our glasses, but they can be easily broken.
